APT Young Professional and Students Programme (APTYPS) 2016

The APT Young Professional and Students Programme (APTYPS) started in 2003 with the objective to encourage young professionals and students from APT Member States to increase awareness and develop their skills on ICT. Since then, 12 forums/ programmes were organized in different Member States of the APT.

 

In 2016, the APTYPS was conducted in Bangkok, Thailand in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society of Thailand. The programme for this year was “Essay and Presentation Competition” under the main theme of “Digital Economy/ICT and Its Impact to Thai Society”. The overall aim of the APTYPS 2016 was to explore and nourish the talents of university students as well as young professionals from Affiliate Members of the APT in Thailand to express their outlook on the policy directions of Digital Economy in Thailand and to contribute significantly for the policy implementation.

The first phase of the competition is “Essay Competition” and the second phase is: “Presentation Competition”. Numerous essays were submitted for selection by the Appraisal Committee, which comprised representatives of TOT Public Company Limited, CAT Telecom Public Company Limited, Intel Microelectronics (Thailand) Limited, MDE and the APT Secretariat. The Presentation Competition was held on 16 November, 2016 at the APT Headquarters. Through a long process of critical judgment, the Appraisal Committee finally selected the best three essays for awards.

The Awards Ceremony was successfully held in the afternoon of the same day at Thailand Pavilion, ITU Telecom World 2016 held during 11-17 November, 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand. Mrs. Vunnaporn Devahastin, Inspector General of MDE presented on behalf of the Permanent Secretary of MDE the honor trophy to the winners and the cash prize was presented by Ms. Areewan Haorangsi, Secretary-General of the APT.

4th Conformance and Interoperability (C&I) Event

13 - 15 November 2016, Bangkok, Thailand

 

The APT and the ITU jointly organized the APT/ITU C&I Event 2016 from 13 to 17 November 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand. This C&I Event included testing and showcasing was held during the ITU Telecom World 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand. The objective of the event was to foster understanding and promote activities on C&I in the Asia-Pacific region. The event also directly contributed to capacity building and finding a solution for interoperability issues of the APT member countries.

 

The testing on IPTV was organized by Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd., Japan on 13 November 2016. Four Affiliate Members of the APT participated in the Showcasing. Details are as follows:

 

·         NEC Corporation, Japan on SDN/NFV Solutions

·         The Telecommunication Technology Committee, Japan on Introduction of ICT Solutions for the Community in Rural Areas

·         National Institute of Information and Communications Technology, Japan on Seamless Network for sharing basic concept of seamless access communication systems (SACS)

·         Oki Electric Industry Co., Ltd, Japan on IPTV.

Visit by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC)

 

On 15 November 2016, Ms. Areewan Haorangsi, Secretary General and Mr. Masanori Kondo, Deputy Secretary General welcomed Dr. Shahjahan Mahmood (third from right), Chairman; Mr. Avijit Chowhury, Director General (Administration), Brigadier General Md. Emdad-ul Bari, Director General (System and Service) and Mr. Khaled Faizal Rahman, Senior Assistant Director (Administration), Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC). Also joining is Mr. Forhadul Parvez, Project Coordinator (Radiocommunication) of the APT.

Seminar on Progress in the APT for the year 2016 (SPA-16)

28 November 2016, Nadi, Fiji

The Seminar on Progress in the APT for the year 2016 (SPA-16) will be held on 28 November 2016 in Nadi, Fiji in conjunction with the 3rd Meeting of Working Group of MC on APT Legal Instruments (WGMC-3) to be held on the same day and the 40th Session of the Management Committee of the APT (MC-40) to be held from 29 November to 2 December 2016 at the same venue. All events will be hosted by the Ministry of Communications of Fiji.

 

SPA-16 will discuss the progress made in the implementation of the APT Work Programme in 2016 and any other issues including new proposals from APT members.

3rd Meeting of Working Group of MC on APT Legal Instruments (WGMC-3)

28 November 2016, Nadi, Fiji

The 3rd Meeting of Working Group of MC on APT Legal Instruments (WGMC-3) will be held on 28 November 2016 in Nadi, Fiji in conjunction with the Seminar on Progress in the APT for the year 2016 (SPA-16) to be held on the same day and the 40th Session of the Management Committee of the APT (MC-40) to be held from 29 November to 2 December 2016 at the same venue. All events will be hosted by the Ministry of Communications of Fiji.

 

WGMC-3 will discuss the progress, decisions made and the report on the proposed amendments to the APT instruments and report the result of review of the Constitution of the APT to MC-40.

40th Session of the Management Committee of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity

29 November -  2 December 2016, Nadi, Fiji

The 40th Session of the Management Committee of the APT (MC-40) will be held from 29 November to 2 December 2016 in Nadi, Fiji. MC-40 will be hosted by the Ministry of Communications of Fiji.

 

MC-40 will review the APT activities in 2016 which have been implemented under the Strategic Plan for 2015-2017 and will also consider and approve the Work Programme and Annual Budget for 2017.
