Recent Event                      

20th Meeting of APT Wireless Group (AWG-20)

6 - 9 September 2016, Bangkok, Thailand

The 20th Meeting of the APT Wireless Group (AWG-20) was held from 6 to 9 September 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand. The meeting was hosted by Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), Thailand. AWG-20 was attended by 201 participants representing Members, Associate Member, Affiliate Members, International/Regional Organizations and other organizations. Mr. Virasak Kittivat, Principal Advisor for Foreign Affairs, MICT, Thailand delivered the inaugural address at the meeting.

 

AWG-20 continued its activities decided at AWG-19 held in February this year. The re-organized Sub-Working Groups and Task Groups met during AWG-20.

 

AWG received the Liaison Statement from APT Conference Preparatory group for WRC-19 (APG-19) to conduct technical and operation perspectives of WRC-19 Agenda Items 1.5, 1.11, 1.12, 1.13, 1.15 and 9.1 (Issues 9.1.1 & 9.1.2). Based on such Liaison Statement, AWG-20 decided to start the studies in relation to the technical and operation perspectives of these agenda items. The newly formed Task Group on Railway Radiocommunications started its work under the WG Service and Application during AWG-20.

 

The following four new APT Reports were approved by AWG-20:

1.     Fixed Wireless System in APT Region

2.     Short Range Radiocommunication Systems and Application Scenarios Operating in the Frequency Range 275-1000 GHz

3.     Survey on Small Cell Could Services

4.     Authorized/Licensed Shared Access as a National Solution to Access Spectrum for IMT

 

AWG-20 revised the APT report on “Information of mobile operators’ frequencies, technologies, and license durations in Asia-Pacific countries”. AWG-20 also approved 7 Liaison Statements to ITU-R SGs and APT Standardization Program (ASTAP).

 

In addition, AWG-20 re-elected Dr. Kohei Satoh (Japan) as Chairman of AWG and Ms. Zhu Keer (People’s Republic of China) and Mr. Le Van Tuan (Socialist Republic of Vietnam) as Vice-Chairmen of AWG. The meeting also appointed Dr. Bambang Setia Nugroho (Indonesia) as Chairman of Working Group Service and Applications replacing Dr. Andri Qiantori (Indonesia).  

 

The next meeting of AWG (AWG-21) has been planned to be held in late March or early April 2017.

17th Meeting of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators’ Council (SATRC-17)

4 - 6 October 2016, Dhaka, Bangladesh

The 17th Meeting of the South Asian Telecommunication Regulators’ Council (SATRC-17) will be held from 4 to 6 October 2016 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. SATRC-17 will be hosted by Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC).

 

The SATRC meeting is held annually to discuss and coordinate regulatory and other related issues in the area of telecommunication and ICT that are common for the regulators of SATRC Members. The meeting will be attended by the heads of telecommunication regulatory bodies of SATRC Member countries and designated senior level officers.

 

The SATRC-17 will discuss the key policy and regulatory issues in the SATRC countries, approve the outcomes of SATRC Action Plan Phase V and adopt SATRC Action Plan Phase VI. SATRC-17 will include special sessions for the Industry-Regulator Dialogue to facilitate the telecom/ICT industry to put forward issues of interest to the regulators. There will also be a Regulatory Roundtable which will be held exclusive for the head of regulators to discuss and share thoughts on important regulatory issues that need regional collaboration specifically for the SATRC Member countries and generally to the Asia-Pacific region.

7th APT Cybersecurity Forum (CSF-7)

11 - 13 October 2016, Phnom Penh, Cambodia

The APT will organize the 7th APT Cybersecurity Forum (CSF-7) from 11 to 13 October 2016 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The forum will be hosted by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications of Cambodia (MPTC), and supported by the Extra Budgetary Contributions from Australia and Japan.

 

The ICT services are prevailing in every corner of our daily life, which is typically observed in the so-called "Internet of Things (IoT)". This phenomenon inevitably leads us to an era of Big Data where vast amount of data is being continuously generated, transferred and processed. Therefore, CSF-7 will focus on this emerging trend with the theme "Emerging Trend: IoT, Big Data and Security". The forum will cover a variety of related issues from identifying and analyzing current and potential issues for each different stakeholder to seeking possible ways to deal with those issues in order to leverage this opportunity.

4th Conformance and Interoperability (C&I) Event

13 - 15 November 2016, Bangkok, Thailand

The APT and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) will jointly organizing the APT/ITU Conformance and Interoperability (C&I) Event 2016 from 13 to 15 November 2016 in Bangkok, Thailand. This C&I Event will include Testing and Showcasing and will be held during the ITU Telecom World 2016 to be held from 14 to 17 November 2016 at the same venue.

 

The objective of the C&I Event is to foster understanding and promote activities on C&I in the APT region. The event will also directly contribute to capacity building and finding a solution for interoperability issues of the APT member countries.

3rd Meeting of Working Group of MC on APT Legal Instruments (WGMC-3)

28 November 2016, Nadi, Fiji

The 3rd Meeting of Working Group of MC on APT Legal Instruments (WGMC-3) will be held on 28 November 2016 in Nadi, Fiji in conjunction with the Seminar on Progress in the APT for the year 2016 (SPA-16) to be held on the same day and the 40th Session of the Management Committee of the APT (MC-40) to be held from 29 November to 2 December 2016 at the same venue. All events will be hosted by the Ministry of Communications of Fiji.

 

WGMC-3 will discuss the progress, decisions made and the report on the proposed amendments to the APT instruments and report the result of review of the Constitution of the APT to MC-40.

Seminar on Progress in the APT for the year 2016 (SPA-16)

28 November 2016, Nadi, Fiji

The Seminar on Progress in the APT for the year 2016 (SPA-16) will be held on 28 November 2016 in Nadi, Fiji in conjunction with the 3rd Meeting of Working Group of MC on APT Legal Instruments (WGMC-3) to be held on the same day and the 40th Session of the Management Committee of the APT (MC-40) to be held from 29 November to 2 December 2016 at the same venue. All events will be hosted by the Ministry of Communications of Fiji.

 

SPA-16 will discuss the progress made in the implementation of the APT Work Programme in 2016 and any other issues including new proposals from APT members.

40th Session of the Management Committee of the Asia-Pacific Telecommunity

29 November -  2 December 2016, Nadi, Fiji

The 40th Session of the Management Committee of the APT (MC-40) will be held from 29 November to 2 December 2016 in Nadi, Fiji. MC-40 will be hosted by the Ministry of Communications of Fiji.

 

MC-40 will review the APT activities in 2016 which have been implemented under the Strategic Plan for 2015-2017 and will also consider and approve the Work Programme and Annual Budget for 2017.
